Feeling old

So I had my annual check up today, all is well and I'm better off than I was a year ago, still can't get my hormones fully in check but it's definitely a 90% improvement from last year. I mentioned the topic of weight, this go around of Weight Watchers is going well but the losses are fluctuating and taking longer than the first go around and she stated that as we get older it's normal. I really didn't think that I was old but now I think I might be LOL.

Running is going well, I believe there are 4 miles on tap for later today...I was hoping to get it done earlier so I could run errands and such later....but whatcha ganna do. Because we're going away for the weekend I'm hoping to get the 6 mile run in tomorrow, but I'm afraid it may be too much after today's run, so perhaps I'll do the 6 today...we'll see what I'm up for.

Just throwing a question out to all of you....my religion class was given $50 to donate (actually all religion classes were) and they chose the Humane Society. We are planning a bake sale after a religion class in a couple of weeks, any other ideas of easy fundraising that the kids could do? Nothing too complicated or recommended treats we could sell? They are really doing a good job and I'm proud of all the kids! It's fun to see their young hearts, so pure, full of joy and just as giving as can be, I'm glad I can be a part of their journey (Hopefully I'm not corrupting them too much LOL)

Why is it????

Why is it that people who kiss ass seem to be the ones that get ahead? So today I learned that one of my co-workers is becoming a team lead. After the merger of my company they combined my group with another and we report to the same manager. He is overwhelmed (I can tell) and team leaders is a good way to address having a larger team reporting to you. So we have a girl on our team that will now be a team lead for the other team. She told our manager that she had supervisory experience and experience in their line of work....Um REALLY??? Cuz you NEVER mentioned that EVER.

It's just frustrating is all....she's been kissing his ass since she found out he was our manager and it was only to get herself ahead. She's one that doesn't come in on time (here it is almost 9:30 and she's supposed to be here at 9 and there's no sign of her yet), she talks on the phone all day, in a foriegn language to boot, takes walks, leaves early, goes for seated chair massages and never makes up the time. Now I understand there are some days you have to leave early for an appt and it's hard for you to make up the time but one week you can work overtime and it all evens out in the end, but that has NEVER been her way. She thinks she's entitled to everything.

Anyway, it's just frustrating, not saying that I would want the job, although I do have team leader and supervisory experience so at least it would be a better fit than her.

Training is going well. Sunday I did 5 miles, my longest run by far and it felt good and strong and I can see that the training is going well and helping me become stronger. I already feel that I'm at a better place with this training than I was last year so I'm really proud and it gives me motivation to continue to work hard. If I put my mind to it, I will succeed!!!

Week 3

Week 3 of training started out strong. I had a 2.5 mile run yesterday and I felt strong and confident. I didn't wear my new shoes, I'll take those back and continue my hunt for new running shoes. Although yesterday's run was fine. My foot didn't feel like it was falling asleep so I'm wondering if it's my form and not the shoe. We'll see. This weekend I have a 5 mile run slated. I'll be doing that on Sunday as Saturday I have guests coming over so I'll switch my Saturday and Sunday runs so we'll see how I do then.

As you know I'll be headed to Germany this year and I'm very excited. My friend I'm staying with sent me a link to stay in a castle. That's right, we will spend a night in a castle. I'm so excited, who ever has stayed in a castle??? Not me that's for sure. I can pretend to be a princess LOL. We'll be staying at Kasteel Ten Berghe (http://www.kasteeltenberghe.be). Looks like it will be an experience of a lifetime.

Struggles pass...

So On Saturday I had a 4 mile run on the books and it went GREAT!!! I ran first thing in the morning and didn't eat anything but did have a Clif's Shot Blok before the work out and that gave me some energy that I was lacking. I took another one at the hour mark of running along with some water and that was my only break during the run. It really felt good and it was a strong run.

I have been getting the feeling that my left foot is falling asleep while running so I figured my shoes have outlived themselves although they look great. So I made a trip to REI on Saturday and picked out some shoes. I tried them out yesterday during my 2.5 mile run and well...they have to go back. I had the start of a blister forming on one of my toes and they just weren't very comfortable. I currently have the Ascic's 1140 and these were Ascic's 1150 (or something like that) so I'll see if they actually have the ones that I currently am using for running, otherwise I'll try a different pair to see if that helps.

So there was a lesson learned, I didn't get down that I couldn't complete the 3 mile run and I took my rest day on Friday as I should instead of trying to make up the time and Saturday's run was strong. So was Sunday's....so I was right in listening to my body and taking a break when needed and not trying to push myself. Just do what I can and know that if I'm not having a strong run that day, it's OK.....it will pass. Just listen to my body and avoid injury, that's what's important.

Struggle

Yesterday I was scheduled to run 3 miles, I did a mile and it took everything that I had. I don't know why I struggled with the run, but physically I just couldn't do it. I did what I could and running a mile is better than not doing anything at all. What I need to do is learn to not be so upset by this. It is more important to listen to my body and not over do it and risk injury.

I just don't don't know why I feel so badly about it. I feel like I've been defeated and in reality I haven't, I've won because I pushed through and did something.

Today is a rest day, I was thinking I would make up the 2 miles from yesterday but I think I need this day of rest so I can have strong weekend runs. If possible I'll make up the 2 miles then but I'm not going to fret and I'm going to do my best to not be disappointed in myself.

Not too much else going on which is good. I've been checking almost daily for flights to Germany and the price hasn't come down at all. I think I will most likely just book the airfare in the up coming weeks so I can just get that out of the way and I don't have to stress about it. I will be working the Rosetta Stone German this weekend to get a jump on the language. I'm excited and can't wait, it's going to be an amazing trip and I'm excited because this will be the first time that J and I have gone some where super nice since our honeymoon 13 years ago. We've been to Vegas and family trips but not as extravagant as this. It should be exciting.

Week 1 Done

Week 1 of training is in the books and because I've been such a dork lately, most of my runs were "week 2" schedule. That's OK, I'm glad I got the runs in and it's better to do more than less right??

Tonight I've got 2.5 miles on tap, I'm not feeling 100% but I'll get it in, regardless if it's walking or running. Something is better than nothing and I'm determined to train the right way this go around.

I continue to feel strong on my runs. Saturday I was to do 4 miles...I did but some of it was walking briskly. Actually most of it was but Sunday's 2.5 mile run was strong. Weird how you can feel each day. I'm thinking Saturday could have been because I didn't have proper fuel before the run. I have a hard time eating anything before I run. If I run too soon after I eat, I get a side stitch, so I ate only a Nature Valley Bar. I'm guessing that wasn't enough. I need to get to REI to pick up some Luna Bars. I recall last year I would eat those before a run and those worked nicely. Perhaps tomorrow I can get there, I don't have to teach because of Ash Wednesday, we've go the day off.

As for Lent, this year my class as stated I should give up candy. Well wouldn't you know it, a co-worker filled my candy dish today LOL. I guess I'll have temptation right in front of me so we'll see how strong I can be. I was thinking of ditching the coffee as well. I usually don't drink it to "get me going" it's more of a hot drink to warm me when I first get into the office. But I mix my coffee with cappuccino so that's not the healthiest. So perhaps I'll add that to my list.

Not too much else going on...which is good.

Training Begins

Yesterday was my first official run of training for the 1/2 marathon in May. It felt good even though I was interrupted with a couple of phone calls. The run felt strong and good and I was happy to have gotten it in. I actually worked out with J and that's nice. Because of the weather my friend Andrea didn't come over to work out. And that definitely was OK by me as I didn't want her to drive in that weather, it was one of those days to just stay home if you didn't need to go out. Today is listed as a rest day, I typically take rest days on Wednesdays because of religion classes, I don't have to try and rush or start my work out at 8pm.

So work....I know that a guy is leaving. I'm the only one that knows at this point as I could read it on his face. Now I'm very happy for him, but selfishly I wonder where this leaves me. He was always my "go to" guy and all the technical stuff I know is because of him. So this really has me thinking of what it is I want to do with my career. I told J about this guy leaving and how he is getting a 35% increase in pay, he deserves it that's for sure and my company has always been know to under pay some of its employee's (I feel I am one of them). J's solution is telling me I should take a technical class, the trouble is, I don't know if that's what I want to do. I often thought that working for a charity might be nice, lately thinking about the Make a Wish Foundation or MACC Fund. But I'm not exactly sure what they all do and if it would be something that would interest me. J also mentions Customer Service as that is some of my background, but what kind of Customer Service. I have a flexible schedule and I don't want to be at the beckon call of a client like in my old group. I thought of perhaps a Physical Therapist but I"m not sure about that either....I wish I know what I wanted to be when I grow up LOL.

Am I the only one that faces this issue? Is everyone happy in their jobs or know what they are good at?? I struggle to answer these questions as I was never pointed in any directions or motivated to try new things. I believe I need a change in my professional career but I'm just not sure how to go about doing that. I think part of my hesitation is that I do lack the confidence in my own skills. The gentleman that's leaving my group (he's also a friend) says that he wishes that I could see in myself what I'm worth and that I know more than I give myself credit for. Those are wonderful complements, I just wish that I could see that in myself....I'm not sure how to change my outlook. I'm hoping that taking control of my exercising and weight will help give me the confidence that I can make changes in other aspects of my life. As with my work outs, sometimes they are strong, some times they aren't but the point is, that I'm out there doing it...trying and NOT giving up.
