Today is my son's birthday. It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years. It begs the question "Where does the time go?" It really is amazing how quickly it goes by. Each year as the kids turn a year older I do get misty eyed and weepy. I try to enjoy each and every moment with my family and when they turn a year older it just really reminds me that it goes by so quickly, I want to be sure I'm enjoy as much of them as I can.
It's not only the kids that I want to enjoy but it's life too and whatever life throws at me, good or bad. So let's reflect...what has life thrown me this year?? It really has been a good year. For the most part I've been healthy, I am having issues with my weight but have no ailments. I finished another 1/2 marathon posting my best time yet. I've traveled overseas for the first time. I've lived through my daughter starting middle school. I've spent time enjoying friends and family. In moving my mom I found old pictures from my childhood. It made me face all the things that happened back then and I'm working through those "issues" and putting those bad experiences behind me.
Things don't look too bad, it's been a good year. I believe I've become a stronger individual but I also know I have lots to learn about myself, life and becoming the person I strive to be.

The Flu
Eeek our family has been stricken by the stomach flu. First starting with my daughter and then to the rest of the family over the weekend. We are now all feeling better so that's a good thing.
The arrangement with the family of 3 that moved in is going well. There doesn't appear to be too much stress in the house and we are enjoying the Holiday season. I wanted to be sure I wasn't too stressed or overwhelmed with the holidays, kids' birthdays or the new house guests and so far we've been successful!
In the next few weeks I will be looking at some fitness goals for next year. I know I want to complete 1 1/2 marathon and I think that will be in September for the Air Force 1/2 Marathon. I'm still trying to decide if I want to do a spring one or not. I'm just not sure what I want to do yet but admittadly I haven't had time to think about it.

Life
Life is good. The extra family living in our small home hasn't presented any issues so that's good. I enjoy having a 1 year old in the house again and I enjoy even more that I can give her to mom and dad if she's getting cranky!!! My kids have transitioned well too. I did have some concerns but so far so good.
And, I got most my Christmas shopping done and the items wrapped!! I'm really attempting to just enjoy the holiday season, the music, the lights, the get togethers, the food, everything!! So cheers to all my readers....I wish you all a joyous holiday season!

Let the Chaos begin...
Yesterday I had my niece and her fiance and their 1 year old daughter move in. They are going through a ruff patch and trying to juggle, work, school and a family. My nephew-in-law also just lost his job. They really needed a break. I just hope that I don't become too overwhelmed with all the activity that will be in the house. I will take each day as it comes and try to not let things bother me.
The holidays are also beginning, one of my favorite times of the year. The Turkey has been consumed, the Christmas Decorations are up...now all I need to do is begin my shopping. Not my favorite thing but it will be fine.

Back to Running
So I've taken off running for awhile and tried other exercises. While I enjoyed the other exercises last week I ran twice and I enjoyed every moment of it. Once was outside and the other inside. I miss it and I think I'll be incorporating more running to my daily routines. I like the variety of the strength training and other types of cardio so I'll continue to mix it up. It's keeping me happy, fit and is reducing my stress levels.
No new updates on my mom and her move saga. She's acting now like nothing ever happened and she didn't freak out on us etc. It's just par for the course. I really need to figure a way to not let things bother or affect me. It's easier said than done. When looking through some pictures I found a card I gave my mom years ago before marriage and kids and it said some really nice things.....the trouble is I don't have any of those same feelings. And then comes the guilt that I don't feel that way any more. How do I get past this? I do I learn to not care as much? How do I not let her affect me in a negative manner? All good questions yet very hard to answer.
On another note, a more positive one, the kids birthday's are coming up. Each year I look at them and recall all the moments of their young lives. They really are growing up to be wonderful people and this makes me proud. On Friday the kids exclaimed that "they bonded" LOL. Yep, a whole 5-10 minutes of bonding in the car....I guess I'll take it when I can get it!

Reflections
So last week I took a vacation day along with my husband and brother to help my mom move. It really was a day that I wish I didn't have to take. I know that sounds cold and heartless but I'm tired of helping my mom with stuff and never feeling appreciated for it. It's frustrating and I'm coming to my end.
The day started at 7am. She wasn't even awake yet. We start down in the basement with crap (and I mean crap). She has boxes of stuff that she uses, another that is garbage and then another that is to be donated. We empty the basement and move up to her actual apartment and it's trashed (and I mean trashed). We don't know where to begin. Some stuff is in boxes but most is not. Everything is dirty, dusty and full of cat hair. We start moving stuff out, some to the rented van, some to the garbage and some to the donation pile. It takes 1/2 a day to get everything out and packed into all available vehicles. Then we move it. We aren't able to unpack as another company is moving another couple and they have use of the elevator so we break for lunch.
After lunch we start unpacking and it feels as if there is no end. We are all losing our patience as we unpack the moving van, place stuff by the elevator, once we have enough stuff we load the elevator, up to the second floor we go, unload and then have to move all the items to her apartment. It was a lot of hard work.
Something got broken and my mom freaked out. Well, if it were packed correctly, like in a box and not just a plastic bag perhaps it wouldn't have broke. Of course we somehow get blamed for that. Then she has to leave because my husband left her outdoor furniture too close to where the donated items are and she doesn't want them to take it. Again there's the blame game instead of taking responsibility.
We are finishing unloading and picking up our son from a friend's house and we're told that the Salvation Army doesn't want any of the stuff she has set out. Now we get to pack the moving van again to take the items to Goodwill. What a mess. We move one last mini van load to her new apt. and then were off. No thank yous nothing.
Then the weekend comes and the game playing begins. My mom calls up my brother and yells at him for he and my husband leaving all kinds of heavy stuff behind and now she has to call in sick all weekend to take care of it. Um, this is YOUR STUFF, YOU CAN MOVE IT!! And it's a lie, she was planning the day off because she wanted my daughter to help her clean up the old place and unpack at the new one. My daughter changed her mind and didn't go.
Sunday comes around and I get called that she needs my help, only an hour or an hour and a half. Um, my son is sick, I am sick and I'm sorry but the Packer's are on. I told her I couldn't help until after 4 because I wasn't leaving a sick kid. She said "he's not sick, he's just playing you". She then decides she'll call my brother to help. Around noon (just before kick off) she says she needs my van, all the stuff won't fit into her car (um, make multiple trips). So I take my van, look at all her crap and just take her keys and leave. I'm not feeling well enough to help her and my son didn't want me to leave. I tell her that and again I get..."he's just playing you".
Couple hours later I get a call and she's stopped by my brother's house, barged in and stated that he needed to help her to unload the van because she's just too sore. We'll what about us my brother says, we're sore too. He begrudgingly goes to help her unpack and yell at her to try and knock some sense into her.
She drops the van back to my house, looks at my son and feels his face and says he has a fever....No REALLY???? I TOLD YOU HE WAS SICK.
It's just a joke. There was no thank you for taking vacation time to help. There was no thank you for working as hard as we did. There was no thank you for using the van. There was no thank you besides her paying for lunch. It's just frustrating, I'm tired of having to parent a 64 year old woman.
I don't get why she hoards, I don't get why she plays games, I just don't get it. It's upsetting to me. I don't like her game playing or manipulation and it really shows me that I don't want to be like that!!!
All I can say is Lord give me strength!

Highs and Lows
This week was an up and down kind of week. I tried on a dress and it didn't fit which sent me into an emotional spiral downward. I felt sorry for myself, wondering why it is I'm working out blah blah blah. The good news, is I snapped out of it and I'm doing what is right. I went out with my SIL and picked out a new dress and shoes to match and that helped boost my spirits.
Life is a roller coaster, the good things in life don't come easily as well they shouldn't. I don't want things handed to me. I believe in hard work and I know that I will be rewarded.
