The Offical Start of my New Year

I know the New Year starts on January 1st but I always seem get recharged on my weekend away with my oldest girlfriend. We started this tradition back in college as a way to have one last weekend to relax before the start of the second semester of college. We've continued this tradition into our adult years and it's grown to a nicer place than just the Holiday Inn when we started. We really look forward to this time away from our families. We are not on Mom or Wife duty, we have the weekend to ourselves to do whatever it is we want.

During this weekend I always seem to get more focused and set my goals for the year. In the past I've worked on my resume, meal planning, exercise planning and focus on weight loss. I'm really pumped to have this weekend so that I can get refocused in my life. I really need to make myself a priority and figure out why it is I can't keep focused on my health. I have no idea why I make excuses or seem to lose track but this is it!! This is my weekend to refocus and give myself a pep talk!

In the words of Stuart Smalley "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darn it people like me".

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!! I hope that 2011 brings lots of good moments for all my friends and family!

My goals for the New Year? Well....I did it! I signed up for 2 1/2 marathons for this year. One in May and the other in September. I'm excited and so it's down to business with getting back on the running band wagon. I started on Sunday and the run felt good, although my treadmill doesn't sound too good, it is very old so a new one may be on the horizon. I'll be running again tonight and I'm looking forward to it. Getting back into a routine is just what I need. I'm determined to meet my goal of the 2 halves this year. I will also track my workouts so I can see my mileage. That's always a good motivator as well.

I will be making a trip to REI or a shoe store as I am in need of some new running shoes. I will make that a priority in the next week or 2. Any suggestions on what my readers like in their running shoes? Currently I have Asics, I like the brand, I just didn't know if there is another brand that is just as nice out there.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!!!

Back to Basics

So with the holiday's my son's birthday and everything else I took a couple of weeks off of working out and man do I feel it. I'm feeling very negative about my body so we need to get on that quick so I don't go into a downward spiral. Tonight after work I am headed for the elliptical. I'm going to start with a 20 min preset workout and then gradually increase my time to get back to where I was.

I've been asked by my friend that ran the Cheesy Marathon with me last year to run another one. She was thinking Door County. I'm really trying to decide if I want to run 2 1/2 marathons next year or not. I'm thinking I should set the goal and achieve it as I didn't last year. But I'm hesitant because I don't know if it will be too much for me. Or perhaps it's just what I need. Make myself be more structured and focused on fitness.

I just don't know. But I do know that I need to make up my mind soon, the New Year is just around the corner.

Sometimes I Thank God for the things.....

That don't happen.

This weekend we blew a fuse and we couldn't get it reset. We called our neighbor who is an electrician and it was bad! He indicated that it could have been so much worse. Whatever happened melted wires and we are lucky that it didn't go through the rest of the wires and through the walls and burn the house down.

So sometimes I am very thankful for the things that don't happen! Right now with having another family living with us, and it being winter, and the holidays I'm very happy that the burning of the wires didn't continue. I believe God was watching out for us all and for that I'm Thankful!!!

Where does the time go?

Today is my son's birthday. It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years. It begs the question "Where does the time go?" It really is amazing how quickly it goes by. Each year as the kids turn a year older I do get misty eyed and weepy. I try to enjoy each and every moment with my family and when they turn a year older it just really reminds me that it goes by so quickly, I want to be sure I'm enjoy as much of them as I can.

It's not only the kids that I want to enjoy but it's life too and whatever life throws at me, good or bad. So let's reflect...what has life thrown me this year?? It really has been a good year. For the most part I've been healthy, I am having issues with my weight but have no ailments. I finished another 1/2 marathon posting my best time yet. I've traveled overseas for the first time. I've lived through my daughter starting middle school. I've spent time enjoying friends and family. In moving my mom I found old pictures from my childhood. It made me face all the things that happened back then and I'm working through those "issues" and putting those bad experiences behind me.

Things don't look too bad, it's been a good year. I believe I've become a stronger individual but I also know I have lots to learn about myself, life and becoming the person I strive to be.

The Flu

Eeek our family has been stricken by the stomach flu. First starting with my daughter and then to the rest of the family over the weekend. We are now all feeling better so that's a good thing.

The arrangement with the family of 3 that moved in is going well. There doesn't appear to be too much stress in the house and we are enjoying the Holiday season. I wanted to be sure I wasn't too stressed or overwhelmed with the holidays, kids' birthdays or the new house guests and so far we've been successful!

In the next few weeks I will be looking at some fitness goals for next year. I know I want to complete 1 1/2 marathon and I think that will be in September for the Air Force 1/2 Marathon. I'm still trying to decide if I want to do a spring one or not. I'm just not sure what I want to do yet but admittadly I haven't had time to think about it.

Life

Life is good. The extra family living in our small home hasn't presented any issues so that's good. I enjoy having a 1 year old in the house again and I enjoy even more that I can give her to mom and dad if she's getting cranky!!! My kids have transitioned well too. I did have some concerns but so far so good.

And, I got most my Christmas shopping done and the items wrapped!! I'm really attempting to just enjoy the holiday season, the music, the lights, the get togethers, the food, everything!! So cheers to all my readers....I wish you all a joyous holiday season!
